I made Gang Som


Here it is, my Gang Som, or Thai Sour Curry, with watermelon rind. It is not as bright orange as it's supposed to be because I didn't have shallots, so I used red onions, which bring that dark color to the dish. However, it was just delicious. Just how I remember it. The watermelon is not as good as Thai watermelon. The rind is much thinner. David Thomson suggested in his Thai Food book that you can use "tasteless pepino melon or unripe honeydews" for this dish. The watermelon rind I used wasn't too bad. I like the idea of using something that was supposed to be thrown away. You can try the same recipe with cauliflowers, green papaya(slice in thick, about 1/2 inch, pieces), okra, or pickling cucumber. Let me know how it goes.
