as easy as it gets

Everyday someone asks me "What's in your vegetable medley?" "How do you make it so tasty?"

Here is my answer, add vegetable oil to the pan, throw in some minced garlic, fry until fragrant and golden (this is the key), throw in your veggies, starting with the ones that take longer to cook, and saute until almost cooked, add soy sauce and cook until your veggies are just cooked. Take off the heat and transfer to a plate so your veggies won't keep cooking.

Special Note: Not all soy sauces were created equal. I prefer to use Thai or Chinese soy sauce. Tamari is also a good soy sauce for mixed veggies. These soy sauces contain little wheat in the fermentation process and it is much more flavorful. If you have a chance, taste different soy sauces side by side and you will see what I mean.

my new love

is a new apron made by wonderful Chasity of Belle and Burger

She took a piece from my vintage collection that was too small for me and made it into this wonderful one-of-a-kind-the-only-piece-in-the-world apron. I have been wearing it at the store at all time. I put it on as soon as I get to work. It makes me want to come to work because I get to show it off. It makes me feel pretty. Here is a post by Chasity on her blog. This woman is creative, fun and full of flavors. Check out her stuff at Thai Fresh. We are proud to have her on board.

rice ball faces

We have been cooking food for our son's school and it has been a fun experience. This is one of the dishes we have made. I had so much fun doing it. Simple and easy recipe. It's basically sushi rice balls. Put the rice on your palm flat (it will roll easier if you have a bowl of water by your side and wet your hands before start rolling. Sprinkling some salt on the wet hands will help even more and will help season the rice too), put the filling (it was tuna, mayo, salt, peas and carrots) and roll the ball. You can make them into triangle shape too. I got this from a Thai cookbook call Aharn Dek (Kid's food). I decorated the outside with half moon carrots and green beans. My son came home from school and had some more of those. Easy and fun.
